Ken-Air – the brand is back

Daily news, 31 Dec 2000
By Luke Clark

20 August 2002

SINGAPORE - Holidex Tours and Travel announced today it was bringing the Ken-Air brand name back from the dead, having gained approval to use it in the Singapore market.

Holidex will launch Ken-Air America and Europe Group Tours at its Celebration of Life travel fair this weekend, offering its first scheduled departures for the year-end school holiday. The Holidex Tours brand name will continue to be used for escorted group tours to Asia Pacific.

Spokesman Benjamin Tan said Holidex had bought over the Ken-Air brand from former Ken-Air chairman Kenny Goh, and would ensure there would be no legal ramifications before re-launching the brand this weekend.

The eventual aim was to use the Ken-Air tag as a wholesale brand, with a range made available and commissionable to retailers in Singapore and the region from next year, he said.

Tan admitted there would be mixed consumer reactions to the launch.

"Definitely there will be two schools of thought. Past travellers with Ken-Air will support the brand. A lot of customers associate themselves with Ken-Air tours. The others will be those caught in the last days of Ken-Air, who will have negative feelings."

Holidex's Consumer Protection Scheme launched this year was designed to ease these fears, he said.
